Lord Oaks is the champion of the Forest Lord spawn and king of the fey. Unlike the other champions he is good-aligned: he only attacks evil players and creatures, and he calls his queen, Silvani, to fight beside him.

Overview

  • In-game name: Lord Oaks
  • Corpse: the remains of Lord Oaks
  • Behavior: it attacks creatures and players with negative karma (evil) on sight, ignores everyone else, and fights like a spellcaster (mage AI), mixing spells with melee.
  • Movement: it is one of the faster creatures in the game (fast speed).
  • Enemies: fey creatures (wisps, pixies, centaurs, ethereal warriors and the like) and the undead are enemies and attack each other on sight.

Abilities

Magic

It fights with the mage AI: it closes to melee range but casts between swings. Its Magery is 120.0 and its Evaluating Intelligence 120.1–130.0.

  • Damage spells: Magic Arrow, Harm, Fireball, Lightning, Mind Blast, Energy Bolt, Explosion and Flame Strike.
  • Other spells: about 1 cast in 8 is Poison (only if you aren't poisoned already). It may also Bless itself, curse you (Weaken, Clumsy, Feeblemind or Curse), drain your mana (Mana Drain or Mana Vampire) or Paralyze you.
  • Healing: it cures itself when poisoned, and sometimes heals itself (Greater Heal when badly hurt), more often the higher its Magery.

Poison immunity

It is immune to poison up to Deadly (Lesser, Regular, Greater, Deadly). Only stronger poison affects it.

Summon pixies (only while Silvani lives)

Each time he takes damage there's a 10% chance that 3–6 pixies appear and attack whoever hurt him. There's no cooldown, so a long fight can bring many waves.

Bard note

He can be provoked and calmed (Peacemaking), but he's immune to Discordance.

Special behaviors

  • Come forth my queen! The first time he checks for her (as soon as he's in the world), he shouts "Come forth my queen!" and Silvani appears next to him. He only does this once.
  • Protected by the queen. While Silvani is alive, spells hurt him for only 10% of their normal damage, and he can summon pixies (below). Once she's dead he loses both.
  • Draining melee. Every time he hits someone in melee, and every time someone hits him in melee, that person takes 20–29 extra damage and loses 20–29 stamina and 20–29 mana.
  • Dispels summons. Any summoned creature that can be dispelled is destroyed instantly when it hits him or he hits it.

Champion rewards

Lord Oaks is a champion: a champion appears at a champion altar when a spawn reaches its final stage, and killing it triggers the champion rewards.

  • Power scrolls: 6 power scrolls are shared out at random among the players with looting rights (a player can get more than one). Each is a random non-crafting skill: +20 (5%), +15 (35%) or +10 (60%). If you're protected by another player through the Justice virtue, your protector may get a copy (60% for a Seeker, 80% for a Follower, 100% for a Knight of Justice).
  • Valor: every player with looting rights gains 800 Valor points.
  • Champion skull: the Enlightenment skull goes into the backpack of a random player with looting rights, or into the corpse if nobody qualifies. The six different skulls are needed to summon the Harrower.
  • Gold rain: every open tile within 12 tiles of the body gets a pile of 500–1,000 gold over the next 10 seconds, with fire and explosion effects.
  • Star room gate: after the champion dies, the altar opens a gate to the star room (5143, 1774) for 2 minutes.
  • No artifacts: champion artifacts don't drop from it on New Bradford.

Loot

Every Lord Oaks carries:

  • Gold: about 2,525–5,000 in total (from its "Ultra Rich" ×5 loot)
  • 30 magic weapons, armor pieces or shields (guaranteed)

It may also carry:

  • A musical instrument (about 10% or less)

Carving

There's nothing to carve from its corpse.

Location

  • Champion spawn: it is the champion of the Forest Lord spawn. It appears at the fixed Forest Lord altar at 5559, 3757 (Lost Lands), once the spawn's fourth level is cleared.

Tips

  • Kill Silvani first: until she dies, your spells do only a tenth of their damage to him and he keeps summoning pixies.
  • Players with positive karma who don't attack him are ignored; he goes after evil characters and creatures.
  • Fighting him in melee costs you hit points, stamina and mana every exchange — archers and mages fare better.
  • With Magery 120 he can cast every damage spell up to Flame Strike.
  • Champions can move over and destroy obstacles in their way, and they see 18 tiles away, so you can't wall them off.
