Skills/Tracking
Appearance
(Redirected from Tracking)
Tracking lets you find the animals, monsters, townsfolk and players around you, pick one out, and follow an arrow straight to it.
At a glance
| Skill cap | 100 (Grandmaster) |
|---|---|
| Use | Use the skill, choose a category, then choose a target |
| Range | 10 tiles, plus 10 for every 10 skill points (110 at 100) |
| Main uses | Finding creatures, people and players nearby |
| Stats it trains | Dexterity and Intelligence |
How to track
- Use the skill: What do you wish to track?
- Pick a category: Animals, Monsters, Human NPCs or Players.
- If your check succeeds, a menu shows up to the 12 closest matches in range: Select the one you would like to track.
- Click one, and a quest arrow on your screen points the way. It lasts until the target moves well out of range.
The first check always succeeds once you have 21.1 Tracking. Below that it can fail: You see no evidence of those in the area.
Range
| Tracking | Search range |
|---|---|
| 0 | 10 tiles |
| 10 | 20 tiles |
| 20 | 30 tiles |
| 30 | 40 tiles |
| 50 | 60 tiles |
| 70 | 80 tiles |
| 90 | 100 tiles |
| 100 | 110 tiles |
Training Tracking
- Every search is a chance to gain. The first check trains you up to 21.1; after that each successful search trains you up to 100.
- There's a 10 second wait between uses, so train it while you do something else.
- Below 10.0 you gain on every attempt, sometimes several tenths at once. Above that, each attempt has a chance to gain 0.1.
- The harder the attempt is for your skill level, the better your chance to gain. Your chance also drops as you get closer to your Tracking cap and to your total skill cap of 700.
- If you've set Tracking to go down (the arrow in your skills list), gains elsewhere can lower it to make room under your total cap. Lock skills you want to keep.
- Reaching 100.0 adds Tracking to the Skills Mastered count on your achievements.
- Rangers, ranger guildmasters, furtraders and thieves will train you for gold: up to a third of their own skill, at most 42.0, for 1 gold per 0.1 points. Ask them (or use their context menu) to train the skill, then drop the gold on them.
Stats: each successful use has about a 4% chance to raise Dexterity and about a 4% chance to raise Intelligence by 1 point. Each stat can rise at most once every 10 minutes, and only if it's set to rise.
Suggested path
| Tracking | How to train |
|---|---|
| 0 to about 33 | Buy it from a ranger. |
| 33 to 100 | Track anything, anywhere, every 10 seconds. Busy places with lots of creatures are best. |

Tips
- Find your prey faster. A tamer hunting for a rare animal or a hunter after a specific monster saves a lot of wandering.
- Track players to find a friend, or someone who'd rather not be found.
