The '''Gargoyle Destroyer''' is the strongest of the gargoyles: 760–850 Strength, about 480 hit points, master spells and up to 160 Magic Resistance. It punishes archers by throwing hatchets back at them.

== Overview ==
* '''In-game name:''' ''a gargoyle destroyer''
* '''Corpse:''' ''a gargoyle corpse''
* '''Behavior:''' it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights like a spellcaster (mage AI), mixing spells with melee.
* '''Bard skills:''' it can't be provoked, calmed with Peacemaking or discorded.
* '''Flier:''' its script marks it as a flying creature (''CanFly'').

== Abilities ==
=== Magic ===
It fights with the mage AI: it closes to melee range but casts between swings. Its Magery is 90.1–100.0 and its Evaluating Intelligence 90.1–100.0.
* '''Damage spells:''' Magic Arrow, Harm, Fireball, Lightning, Mind Blast, Energy Bolt, Explosion and Flame Strike.
* '''Other spells:''' about 1 cast in 8 is Poison (only if you aren't poisoned already). It may also Bless itself, curse you (Weaken, Clumsy, Feeblemind or Curse), drain your mana (Mana Drain or Mana Vampire) or Paralyze you.
* '''Healing:''' it cures itself when poisoned, and sometimes heals itself (Greater Heal when badly hurt), more often the higher its Magery.
* '''Dispel:''' with 152+ Intelligence it can cast Dispel on your summoned creatures (more reliably the higher its Magery).

=== Hatchet counter ===
When an archer (anyone wielding a ranged weapon) damages it, there's a '''40%''' chance it throws a hatchet back for '''50 damage'''.

== Loot ==
Every gargoyle destroyer carries:
* '''Gold:''' about 662–1,000 in total (from its "Filthy Rich" and "Rich" loot)
* '''1 magic scroll''' from circles 4–7. With Necromancy enabled on New Bradford, necromancy scrolls can show up too.
* '''2 random gems''' (amber, amethyst, citrine, diamond, emerald, ruby, sapphire, star sapphire or tourmaline)

It may also carry:
* A '''magic weapon, armor piece or shield''' (up to 7 chances, from about 33% down to 1% each)
* A '''musical instrument''' (about 3% or less)
* A '''gargoyle's pickaxe''' (20%). Mining with one has a 10% chance to call up an ore elemental when you dig coloured ore; see [[Bestiary/Dull Copper Elemental]].

=== Carving ===
Use a blade on the corpse to get:
* '''1 raw ribs'''

== Tips ==
* Archers beware: 40% of the time an arrow hits it, it throws a hatchet back for 50 damage.
* Bard skills don't work on it.
* Its loot is rich: Filthy Rich plus Rich, a circle 4–7 scroll and 2 gems.
* Carve it for 1 raw ribs.
