The Orc Brute is a giant orc with ogre-lord strength: 476–552 hit points, 20–25 damage a hit and 125–140 Magic Resistance. Worse, every spell that hurts it calls up an orcish lord next to the caster.

Overview

  • In-game name: an orc brute
  • Corpse: an orcish corpse
  • Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights in melee.
  • Bard skills: it can't be provoked, calmed with Peacemaking or discorded.
  • Enemies: savages and orcs are enemies and attack each other on sight.
  • Rummages corpses: from time to time it takes a random item from a corpse within 2 tiles (*rummages through a corpse and takes an item*). Loot your kills quickly near one.

Abilities

Poison immunity

It is immune to all poison, so poisoned weapons, the Poison spell and poison potions do nothing to it.

Dispels summons

Any summoned creature that can be dispelled is destroyed instantly when it hits the orc brute in melee or the orc brute hits it. Blade spirits, energy vortexes, summoned elementals and daemons are wasted against it.

Special behaviors

  • Calls orcish lords. Each time it takes damage from a spell (cast by anyone but itself), an orcish lord appears at a random spot near the caster and attacks the caster. This stops only while there are already 10 orcish lords within 10 tiles of the brute. These lords give no loot, fame or karma.
  • Orcish kin mask. It won't treat a player wearing an orcish kin mask as an enemy, so a masked player can walk among orcs. But if a masked player attacks it (or does anything else hostile to it), the mask is destroyed and they take 50 fire damage.

Loot

Every orc brute carries:

  • Gold: about 662–1,000 in total (from its "Filthy Rich" and "Rich" loot)
  • 25 shadow iron ore
  • 10 iron ingots

It may also carry:

  • A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 7 chances, from about 33% down to 1% each)
  • A musical instrument (about 3% or less)
  • an orcish kin mask (5%)
  • a bola ball (20%), which a tinker can make into a bola

Carving

Use a blade on the corpse to get:

  • 2 raw ribs

Location

  • The Deceit brazier: double-clicking it from within 2 tiles summons one creature picked at random from a list of about 90, and this is one of them. The brazier warns players who step next to it ("Heed this warning well, and use this brazier at your own peril"). It works once every 15 minutes and places the creature within 5 tiles. The summoned creature is set to attack the closest target, even if it would normally leave you alone, and it stays within 5 tiles of the brazier.

Tips

  • Don't fight it with spells unless you're ready for a stream of orcish lords. Melee, archery and pets are safer.
  • Bard skills don't work on it, and it's immune to all poison.
  • It can dispel your summoned creatures.
  • Filthy Rich plus Rich loot, plus 25 shadow iron ore.
  • It rummages through corpses, so loot your kills before it reaches them.
