Overview
- In-game name: a phoenix

- Behavior: it leaves you alone unless you attack it, then fights like a spellcaster (mage AI), mixing spells with melee.

- Not tameable: it can't be tamed.

Abilities
Magic
It fights with the mage AI: it closes to melee range but casts between swings. Its Magery is 90.2–100.0 and its Evaluating Intelligence 90.2–100.0.
- Damage spells: Magic Arrow, Harm, Fireball, Lightning, Mind Blast, Energy Bolt, Explosion and Flame Strike.
- Other spells: about 1 cast in 8 is Poison (only if you aren't poisoned already). It may also Bless itself, curse you (Weaken, Clumsy, Feeblemind or Curse), drain your mana (Mana Drain or Mana Vampire) or Paralyze you.
- Healing: it cures itself when poisoned, and sometimes heals itself (Greater Heal when badly hurt), more often the higher its Magery.
- Dispel: with 504+ Intelligence it can cast Dispel on your summoned creatures (more reliably the higher its Magery).
Loot
Every phoenix carries:
- Gold: about 662–1,000 in total (from its "Filthy Rich" and "Rich" loot)
It may also carry:
- A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 7 chances, from about 33% down to 1% each)
- A musical instrument (about 3% or less)
Carving
Use a blade on the corpse to get:
- 1 raw bird
- 36 feathers
Location
- The Deceit brazier: double-clicking it from within 2 tiles summons one creature picked at random from a list of about 90, and this is one of them. The brazier warns players who step next to it ("Heed this warning well, and use this brazier at your own peril"). It works once every 15 minutes and places the creature within 5 tiles. The summoned creature is set to attack the closest target, even if it would normally leave you alone, and it stays within 5 tiles of the brazier.
Tips
- It won't attack you first, so you can choose your moment.
- It gives 36 feathers when carved.
- Its two loot packs ("Filthy Rich" and "Rich") pay well.
