The Plague Beast Lord is a puzzle creature. Fighting it is pointless, since its corpse is emptied when it dies. To get its prize, the mutation core, you have to paralyze it, cut it open and perform surgery on its organs before it dissolves.

Poison immunity

It is immune to all poison, so poisoned weapons, the Poison spell and poison potions do nothing to it.

The innards puzzle

Killing a plague beast lord gives nothing: everything in its corpse is deleted when it dies. Its prize, the plague beast mutation core, comes from a puzzle inside its body:

1. Paralyze it with the Paralyze spell. Instead of the normal duration it's held for 120 seconds: its flesh hardens ("* The plague beast's amorphous flesh hardens and becomes immobilized *"), it turns pale blue, stops fighting and becomes invulnerable. Whoever cast the spell also stops fighting it.
2. Cut it open with a blade (use it as if carving; scissors won't work). You have to be within 2 tiles. Only the first player who opens it can work on it. Opening it cuts your remaining time to at most 60 seconds.
3. Open the organs. The open body holds six random organs plus a backup organ and a main organ:
   • Maiden organs: double-click to open.
   • Rock organs: cut with scissors (3 seconds). A blade is "too crude an implement for such a procedure".
   • Rubble organs: cut its veins with scissors. Cut three veins of a different color from the organ to open it. Cutting the vein that matches the organ's color releases a poison cloud: you get Greater poison and the beast dissolves.
   • Backup organ: cut with scissors to reveal a diseased gland. Remove it and drop a healthy gland (from a plague beast) into the empty sac; after a few seconds it heals and opens.
4. Collect four brains. Four of the organs hide a colored brain. Drop each brain on the receptacle of the same color on the main organ in the center ("You place the organ in the fleshy receptacle near the core.").
5. Stop the bleeding. Wounds that bleed grow every 1.5 seconds and kill the beast after about 4.5 seconds unless you bandage them. The core won't open while any wound is still bleeding.
6. Cut out the core. With all four brains in place and no open wounds, the mutation core appears below the main organ. Cut it with scissors: it goes into your backpack and the beast dies a second later.

Time limit: the beast starts bubbling 15 seconds before the deadline ("* The plague beast begins to bubble and dissolve! *"). At the deadline it unfreezes, and if it was opened, it dies. If it wasn't opened it simply wakes up and fights again.

Loot

It carries no loot, and anything in its corpse is deleted when it dies. See the puzzle above for the mutation core.

Carving

Carving it with a blade while it's paralyzed opens the innards puzzle (see above). Its corpse has nothing to carve.

Tips

• Bring a healthy plague beast gland, scissors, a blade and bandages before you paralyze it.
• Plan the surgery; you have at most 60 seconds once you cut it open.
• Never cut the vein that matches a rubble organ's color.
• Bandage every bleeding wound right away; a wound left alone kills the beast in about 4.5 seconds.
• Others can't help: only the player who opened it can work on the innards.
