The Sheep is a peaceful farm animal that you can shear for wool. It's easy to tame and always obeys.

Overview

  • In-game name: a sheep
  • Corpse: a sheep corpse
  • Looks: a sheep with its fleece uses body 0xCF. After it's shorn it switches to the shorn body (0xDF) until its wool grows back.
  • Behavior: it leaves you alone unless you attack it, then fights in melee (animal AI).

Taming

Requirement Value
Minimum Animal Taming 11.1 (below this you have no chance)
Control slots 1
Maximum owners 5 (each previous owner makes it harder to tame)
Bonding Yes
Rideable No
Favorite food Fruits and vegetables or grain and hay
  • Success chance. For a first-time tame, your chance of success at the end of an attempt rises by about 2% per skill point and reaches 100% at 61.0 skill. Every previous owner adds 6 points to the difficulty.
  • Don't hurt it. If it takes any damage during your attempt, taming fails with "The animal is too angry to continue taming."
  • Stay close. You must stay within 6 tiles of it and keep a clear path to it.
  • Obedience. Once tamed, its taming requirement is 29.1 or lower, so it always obeys its owner.
  • Re-taming. If you've owned this one before, taming it again always succeeds ("That wasn't even challenging.").
  • After its first tame, its skills drop to 90% of their wild values, or 86% if it was paralyzed while you tamed it. Its stats don't drop.

Bonding

Only the owner can bond with a sheep. Its taming requirement is 29.1 or lower, so there's no Animal Taming requirement to bond. Feed it to start bonding, then feed it again after 7 days to finish. When you see "Your pet has bonded with you!", it's done.

Shearing

Use a blade on a living sheep to shear it.

  • You get 1 wool.
  • Its wool grows back after 3 hours. Until then it looks shorn and can't be sheared again.
  • The wool goes straight into your backpack. Shearing doesn't hurt the sheep, and it works on wild or tamed sheep.
  • If it was shorn recently you'll see "This sheep is not yet ready to be shorn."

Loot

It carries no loot.

Carving

Use a blade on the corpse to get:

  • 3 raw legs of lamb
  • 3 tainted wool if it still has its fleece. A sheep that was shorn recently has none. Tainted wool spins into only 1 ball of yarn instead of the usual 3.

Tips

  • Taming starts at 11.1 and always succeeds from 61.0.
  • Shear it rather than kill it: it regrows wool every 3 hours.
  • Wool carved from a corpse is tainted wool, which spins into only 1 ball of yarn instead of 3.
  • Carve the corpse for 3 raw legs of lamb.
