The Meer Captain leads Meer warriors: a crossbow archer with master Archery and Swordsmanship that heals its troops and protects itself with a magic shield. The Meer (a Lord Blackthorn's Revenge race) have good karma and fight only the evil: they attack creatures and players with negative karma and leave good-karma players alone.
Overview
- In-game name: a meer captain
- Corpse: a meer corpse
- Behavior: it attacks creatures and players with negative karma (evil) on sight, ignores everyone else, and fights at range with a bow or crossbow (archer AI), keeping its distance.
- Bard skills: it can't be provoked, calmed with Peacemaking or discorded.
- Notoriety: it shows as innocent (blue). Whether attacking it affects your own standing hasn't been checked.
- Rummages corpses: from time to time it takes a random item from a corpse within 2 tiles (*rummages through a corpse and takes an item*). Loot your kills quickly near one.
- Archer: it uses the archer AI with a crossbow, and also carries a random sword.

Special behaviors
- Spell shield. Whenever it's fighting and its shield has run out, it raises a magic reflection shield worth 5–7 points. Spells cast at it bounce back to the caster until the points are used up (higher-circle spells use up more), then it renews the shield.
- Heals meer warriors. Every 10–15 seconds it heals every injured friendly meer warrior within 8 tiles by 20–30 hit points (not if the warrior is poisoned or mortally wounded).
Loot
Every meer captain carries:
- Gold: about 30–75 in total (from its "Meager" loot)
- two bundles of 10–20 crossbow bolts
- a bag of 10–20 reagents
- its crossbow and a sword (longsword, cutlass, broadsword, katana, scimitar or viking sword)
It may also carry:
- A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 2 chances, from about 1% down to 0.2% each)
- A musical instrument (about 0.1% or less)
Carving
There's nothing to carve from its corpse.
Tips
- Mages: expect your first few spells to be reflected back at you.
- Kill the captain first to stop the healing.
- It shows blue (innocent), and it has +5,000 karma, so killing it costs karma.
- Bard skills don't work on it.
- It rummages through corpses, so loot your kills before it reaches them.
