The Silver Steed is a shining horse with the stats of an ordinary riding horse but one of the highest taming requirements in the game (103.1). It's prized for its looks and its stamina, not its fighting.

Overview

  • In-game name: a silver steed
  • Corpse: a silver steed corpse
  • Behavior: it leaves you alone unless you attack it, then fights in melee.

Minimum Animal Taming 103.1 (below this you have no chance)
Control slots 1
Maximum owners 5 (each previous owner makes it harder to tame)

  • Success chance. You need at least 103.1 Animal Taming even to try, so you'll need skill above 100 (power scrolls). For a first-time tame the chance at the end of an attempt is about 14% at 110.0 skill and about 34% at 120.0 (it would reach 100% only at 153.0, above the skill cap). Every previous owner adds 6 points to the difficulty.
  • Don't hurt it. If it takes any damage during your attempt, taming fails with "The animal is too angry to continue taming."
  • Stay close. You must stay within 6 tiles of it and keep a clear path to it.
  • Obedience. Once tamed, how often it obeys depends on your Animal Taming and Animal Lore (taming counts four times as much as lore). With both at 103.1 it obeys about 70% of the time, and at about 108.0 it reaches the 99% maximum. Below 103.1 the chance drops quickly, to as low as 22%.
  • Re-taming. If you've owned this one before, taming it again always succeeds ("That wasn't even challenging.").
  • After its first tame, its skills drop to 90% of their wild values, or 86% if it was paralyzed while you tamed it. Its stats don't drop.

Bonding

Only the owner can bond with a silver steed, and they need at least 103.1 Animal Taming (base skill). Feed it to start bonding, then feed it again after 7 days to finish. When you see "Your pet has bonded with you!", it's done.

Riding

Double-click your tamed silver steed to ride it. It can run 4,480 steps before it gets too tired to move, compared with 3,840 for a horse. Only running counts (walking doesn't tire it unless you're overloaded), and it recovers 1 step per second while it isn't running.

Loot

It carries no loot.

Carving

There's nothing to carve from its corpse.

Tips

  • It's a pure riding mount: its fighting stats are those of a horse.
  • It runs 4,480 steps before tiring, more than a horse (3,840).
  • It costs only 1 control slot.
  • It leaves you alone unless you attack it, so you can take your time setting up a tame.
