The War Horse is a strong, peaceful horse with 240 hit points that can run much farther than a regular horse. There are four colored war horses, one for each faction (Council of Mages, Minax, Shadowlords and True Britannians), plus a separate faction war horse that only members of its faction can tame and ride.
Overview
- In-game name: all of them are called a war horse and leave a war horse corpse.
- Looks: each of the four colored war horses has its own body: Council of Mages 0x77, Minax 0x78, Shadowlords 0x79 and True Britannians 0x76.
- Behavior: it leaves you alone unless you attack it, then fights in melee.

| Resistances and damage types (not used on New Bradford) | ||

| The script also lists Age of Shadows resistances and damage types. New Bradford runs on Lord Blackthorn's Revenge combat rules, so these values have no effect in fights. They're shown here only for completeness. | ||

Taming
| Requirement | War horse | Faction war horse |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum Animal Taming | 29.1 | 0.0 (own faction only) |
| Control slots | 1 | 1 |
| Maximum owners | 5 | 5 |
| Bonding | Yes | Yes |
| Rideable | Yes | Yes |
| Favorite food | Fruits and vegetables or grain and hay | Fruits and vegetables or grain and hay |
Below the minimum Animal Taming you have no chance. Each previous owner makes it harder to tame.
- Success chance. For a first-time tame:
- War horse: your chance of success at the end of an attempt rises by about 2% per skill point and reaches 100% at 79.0 skill.
- Faction war horse: your chance of success at the end of an attempt rises by about 2% per skill point and reaches 100% at 49.9 skill.
- Every previous owner adds 6 points to the difficulty.
- Don't hurt it. If it takes any damage during your attempt, taming fails with "The animal is too angry to continue taming."
- Stay close. You must stay within 6 tiles of it and keep a clear path to it.
- Obedience. Once tamed:
- War horse: its taming requirement is 29.1 or lower, so it always obeys its owner.
- Faction war horse: its taming requirement is 29.1 or lower, so it always obeys its owner.
- Re-taming. If you've owned this one before, taming it again always succeeds ("That wasn't even challenging.").
- After its first tame, its skills drop to 90% of their wild values, or 86% if it was paralyzed while you tamed it. Its stats don't drop.
Bonding
Only the owner can bond with a war horse. Its taming requirement is 29.1 or lower, so there's no Animal Taming requirement to bond. Feed it to start bonding, then feed it again after 7 days to finish. When you see "Your pet has bonded with you!", it's done.
Riding
Double-click your tamed war horse to ride it. It can run 6,400 steps before it gets too tired to move, compared with 3,840 for a horse. Only running counts (walking doesn't tire it unless you're overloaded), and it recovers 1 step per second while it isn't running. A faction war horse also needs you to be in its faction with rank 2 or higher (see below).
Faction war horses
The faction war horse belongs to a faction.
- Taming: only a member of the horse's own faction can tame it (anyone else gets "You cannot tame this creature."). Its script sets no minimum Animal Taming, so it counts as 0.
- Riding: you must be in its faction and have a faction rank of at least 2. Non-members see "You cannot mount a faction war horse!"; members of another faction see "You cannot ride an opposing faction's war horse!"; low-ranked members see "You must achieve a faction rank of at least two before riding a war horse!"
- Look: its body comes from its faction's settings. Without a faction it looks like a plain horse.
- Price: its script lists a price of 500 silver or 3,000 gold. Where and how it's sold on New Bradford isn't covered here.
Loot
It carries no loot.
Carving
There's nothing to carve from its corpse.
Tips
- The colored war horses need only 29.1 Animal Taming and always obey their owner.
- With 240 hit points and 6,400 steps, they're much tougher and longer-running than a regular horse.
- Faction war horses can only be tamed by their own faction and ridden at faction rank 2 or higher.
- War horses don't count toward the Tame 500 Horses achievement; only regular horses do.
- Their corpses have nothing to carve.
