The Evil Mage Lord leads the renegade mages. It casts with 95–100 Magery, is much quicker than an evil mage (191–215 Dexterity), and carries 23 reagents and two scrolls of circle 4–7 magic.
Overview
- In-game name: one of four names: Xarot the Black Archmage, Kwan Li the Lord of the Mists, Bazerion the Wizard-Lord or Ylthallynon the Insane
- Corpse: an evil mage lord corpse
- Looks: a robed mage figure in one of two evil mage lord bodies, with a matching wizard's hat.
- Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights like a spellcaster (mage AI), mixing spells with melee.
- Notoriety: it always shows as a murderer (red), so anyone can attack it freely.
- Rummages corpses: from time to time it takes a random item from a corpse within 2 tiles (*rummages through a corpse and takes an item*). Loot your kills quickly near one.

Abilities
Magic
It fights with the mage AI: it closes to melee range but casts between swings. Its Magery is 95.1–100.0 and its Evaluating Intelligence 80.2–100.0.
- Damage spells: Magic Arrow, Harm, Fireball, Lightning, Mind Blast, Energy Bolt, Explosion and Flame Strike.
- Other spells: about 1 cast in 8 is Poison (only if you aren't poisoned already). It may also Bless itself, curse you (Weaken, Clumsy, Feeblemind or Curse), drain your mana (Mana Drain or Mana Vampire) or Paralyze you.
- Healing: it cures itself when poisoned, and sometimes heals itself (Greater Heal when badly hurt), more often the higher its Magery.
- Dispel: with 126+ Intelligence it can cast Dispel on your summoned creatures (more reliably the higher its Magery).
Loot
Every evil mage lord carries:
- Gold: about 90–225 in total (from its "Average" and "Meager" loot)
- 2 magic scrolls from circles 4–7. With Necromancy enabled on New Bradford, necromancy scrolls can show up too.
- 23 reagents (random)
- its robe, wizard's hat (same colour) and sandals
It may also carry:
- A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 5 chances, from about 5% down to 0.2% each)
- A musical instrument (about 0.5% or less)
Carving
Use a blade on the corpse to get:
- 1 raw ribs
Location
- The Deceit brazier: double-clicking it from within 2 tiles summons one creature picked at random from a list of about 90, and this is one of them. The brazier warns players who step next to it ("Heed this warning well, and use this brazier at your own peril"). It works once every 15 minutes and places the creature within 5 tiles. The summoned creature is set to attack the closest target, even if it would normally leave you alone, and it stays within 5 tiles of the brazier.
Tips
- It has the same low hit points as an evil mage, so a fast melee rush or a strong opening spell works well.
- With 95–100 Magery it can cast Flame Strike; keep your hit points high.
- It has 10,500 fame, a lot for so few hit points.
- It rummages through corpses, so loot your kills before it reaches them.
