The Rotting Corpse is a slow, bloated mass of undead flesh with 1,200 hit points, 250 Magic Resistance and a Lethal poison strike.

Overview

  • In-game name: a rotting corpse
  • Corpse: a rotting corpse
  • Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights in melee.
  • Movement: it is one of the slower creatures in the game (slow speed), so you can outrun it.
  • Enemies: fey creatures (wisps, pixies, centaurs, ethereal warriors and the like) and the undead are enemies and attack each other on sight.
  • Bleed immune: bleed attacks (a weapon special New Bradford enables) don't affect it.
  • No mana: it has no mana.

Skills

Skill Range
Magic Resistance 250.0
Poisoning 120.0
Tactics 100.0
Wrestling 90.1–100.0

Its 250 Magic Resistance is one of the highest of any creature, so spells barely hurt it.

Abilities

Poison attack

Each time its melee attack hits, there's a 50% chance it also poisons the target with Lethal poison.

  • Lethal poison deals 25% of your current hit points (at least 9, at most 26) every 5 seconds, for up to 10 ticks.
  • Cure it with a cure potion, the Cure or Arch Cure spell, or a healer's bandages and the Healing skill. Higher levels are harder to cure.

Poison immunity: it is immune to all poison, so poisoned weapons, the Poison spell and poison potions do nothing to it.

Loot

Every rotting corpse carries:

  • Gold: about 804–1,300 in total (from its "Filthy Rich" ×2 loot)

It may also carry:

  • A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 8 chances, from about 33% down to 5% each)
  • A musical instrument (about 4% or less)
  • A level 5 treasure map (1% chance)

Carving

There's nothing to carve from its corpse.

Location

  • Champion spawn: it is a level 4 creature of the Unholy Terror champion spawn (champion: Neira), so it appears at the fixed Unholy Terror altar at 5179, 709, and any of the 11 Lost Lands altars that rolls Unholy Terror. Each one killed during a spawn gives the killer Valor and champion-title progress.
  • The Deceit brazier: double-clicking it from within 2 tiles summons one creature picked at random from a list of about 90, and this is one of them. The brazier warns players who step next to it ("Heed this warning well, and use this brazier at your own peril"). It works once every 15 minutes and places the creature within 5 tiles. The summoned creature is set to attack the closest target, even if it would normally leave you alone, and it stays within 5 tiles of the brazier.

Tips

  • Use melee or archery: its 250 Magic Resistance shrugs off spells.
  • Bring Greater Cure potions or a healer for its Lethal poison.
  • It's slow, so you can step away to cure.
  • Two Filthy Rich loot packs and a 1% chance at a level 5 treasure map.
