The Solen Queen is the ruler of a solen hive: the largest of the hive ants, with an acid sac like the warriors and a chance at a Ball of Summoning.

Overview

• In-game names: a red solen queen or a black solen queen
• Corpse: a solen queen corpse
• Red and black: red and black solen queens have identical stats; the black one is darker.
• Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights in melee.
• Solen friendship. Players who finished the Solen Matriarch quest are friends of either the red or the black hive. Solen of your hive don't treat you, your pets or your summons as enemies. If you, your pet or your summon damages a solen of your own hive, the friendship ends at once: "The solen revoke their friendship. You will now be considered an intruder."

Abilities

Acid sac

While it has 50 or more hit points, every time something standing next to it (within 1 tile) damages it, it sprays acid (the acid sac spills message) and leaves a pool of acid under the attacker. The first time its hit points drop below 50 the sac bursts (overhead message) and it stops spraying. When it dies it leaves 4 more pools around its body.

• A pool lasts 10 seconds (it dries halfway through) and deals 30 damage every second to any player, pet or summon standing on it, plus 30 more each time you step onto it.
• Fight it with ranged attacks or spells to avoid the spray, or step off the pool right away.

Loot

Every solen queen carries:

• Gold: about 260–350 in total (from its "Rich" loot)
• 5 zoogi fungus (5% chance of 25 instead)

It may also carry:

• A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 3 chances, from about 20% down to 1% each)
• A musical instrument (about 1% or less)
• A Ball of Summoning (5% chance)
• A picnic basket holding a bottle of wine and a cheese wedge (1% chance)

Zoogi fungus is part of the Solen Matriarch quest: the matriarch turns it into powder of translocation (1 powder for every 2 fungus, up to 100 at a time).

Carving

There's nothing to carve from its corpse.

Tips

• Same acid sac rules as a solen warrior: fight it from range until it's below 50 hit points.
• Its 5% Ball of Summoning drop is the main reason to hunt queens.
