Part of the lore of New Bradford.
After Frederick and Melina were both put to rest, the town mourned for a time and then life went on. New Bradford was where everyone lived and Frederickson became the unofficial leader of the settlement, being the oldest son. Life normalized and became routine. The land was so expansive and had such different land variations that anything was possible. After a few years the siblings started to split off one by one and they each started their settlements in various areas of the land. Even though they were blood, their personalities were so different that they had individual interests they wanted to explore. They were able to pursue their desires but still be close enough to the rest of the family to be there for each other if they needed to be.
As mentioned before, Frederickson, although named after his father, was nothing like Frederick. Frederick was always happy to follow the rules and do what was expected of him, at least until he married Melina. Frederickson was the opposite of his father from the day he was born. The number of times Frederickson ran off when he was a little boy more than explained the silver strands the young Cordelia had in her hair. Young Frederickson's favorite thing to do was to visit his grandfather at the dock in Bradford. He loved to watch the ships being built. He would scamper aboard them and imagine he was the captain of the ship, about to sail off to new lands. He was never happier than when he was smelling the salty air and running around the docks.
When Frederickson was 20, back in Bradford, his parents did what all parents did and arranged his marriage. He married Adelaide, the daughter of one of his grandfather, Edgar's, boat builders. She was meek and mild and said yes to whatever Frederickson asked of her without complaint. Frederickson had hoped that his new bride would be as adventuresome as he was since her father built boats as well, but that was not part of her disposition. Adelaide was the happiest when she was at home. Her life revolved around taking care of her home and her family. She was proficient at sewing, cleaning, and virtually every other household chore. The only thing she loved to do that wasn't taking care of her family was to read. In her free time, she could almost always be seen outside on a sunny day, lounging in the grass, reading a book. Real-life adventures were not for her, but Adelaide loved to read about them.
Frederickson and Adelaide had three sons; Liam, Daniel, and Emmett. Adelaide doted on them as much as she doted upon her husband. She was the perfect little wife for their perfect little home. Unfortunately, Frederickson was not the perfect husband to Adelaide. He never treated her harshly, never lifted a hand to her, and he always gave her everything she needed. His biggest flaw was that he was gone a lot. He often was gone for months at a time. Once he returned home he would give his family some presents, maybe spend a few nights at the house, do his husbandly duties, and then be off again. The amount that Adelaide loved to stay at home and keep her house in order was the amount Frederickson loved to explore.
From the age of 16, Frederickson was trained at the bank, as was expected, and learned everything he could want to know about finances and money. He found it interesting and loved the idea of money and everything money could buy. But banking wasn't his passion so he didn't spend as much time there as he should. He often snuck away from the bank and went to the docks. He always claimed that he was concerned about his aging grandfather and wanted to help him with the boating business.
Once he married Adelaide and started his own family he spent more and more time at the docks. He made excuse after excuse, claiming he needed to go to lands far away to be his grandfather's advocate and supervise trading ventures. It could never be proven, but the rumor was that Frederickson had a girl or two at every port. He was a very friendly lad, sometimes almost uncomfortably friendly.
Adelaide did what she thought was best, and turned a blind eye to the rumors. As long as her husband provided for her and the children, and as long as in the end, he came back to her, that was all she needed to be content. Security was more important to her than romance. When it was time to leave Bradford and find the new land, Adelaide dutifully packed up her things and followed her husband.
After the death of Frederick and Melina, Frederickson decided to stay put in the new settlement. Ironically, the reason he chose to stay put was so that he could continue to explore the world. The port they had settled at was so perfect for boats to come and go that he decided to follow in his grandfather's footsteps and become a shipwright. The forests had the perfect types of wood to build ships. The more the population grew and the more the land expanded, the more they would have a necessity for trade. Add that to Frederickson's knowledge of banking from his years of apprenticing under his father, Frederickson was set to become the richest man in the land, even if he was only rich with gold.
Frederickson Today
Current day Frederickson is the biggest boating town around. If you require a ship, this is the place you want to go. From one-person fishing vessels to ships outfitted for treasure hunting and sea monster slaying. the shipwrights at Frederickson can do it all.
The town of Frederickson also has the biggest financial district in New Bradford. If you need to store your treasures after a day of looting or even just write a check for a big purchase, there is no bigger bank on the land.
Frederickson is the center for culture and finery as well. All the most lavish parties are held in this town. There is also a playhouse which boasts the best entertainment around, with new events every few weeks. If you need a new outfit for the parties and plays, the tailor in town would be happy to outfit you in the latest fashions. For visitors, the place to stay is The Frederickson Inn. This hotel boasts the softest beds and the best meals around. Stop in if you need a place to stay for a while or even a room for just a few hours. The owner, Yasmine, is very discreet.
Scarlett's Stables is where visitors can house their horses while they go about their business in town. The stables even have horses, pack mules, and other animals to rent if you desire. There are horses there that are direct ancestors of the original Scarlett, although there was so much cross-breeding that no horse has ever been as beautifully dark red as the original.
The fanciest building in town is the library. Presumably built by Frederickson as a guilt offering to Adelaide it houses every book imaginable. From educational books, spell books, atlases of the area, to fantasy books to help people escape real life. The library is located right off the water and has a deck on the top floor with plush chairs, originally built so Adelaide could read her books and watch the ships come in, devotedly waiting for her husband to return.
Because of the amount of trading that is now done in Frederickson you can find almost every shop imaginable. If you need it, you can probably find it here. From a tailor shop to magic supplies, there is a shop for everyone. Frederickson is the best town for newcomers to get outfitted and prepare for an adventure.
