Welcome to New Bradford! This page walks you through installing the game and logging in for the first time. It only takes a few steps:
- Download the New Bradford Launcher.
- Let your browser keep the download.
- Use the launcher to install the game.
New Bradford installs into its own folder with its own copy of the game, so it won't interfere with any other Ultima Online servers or ClassicUO setups you already have on your computer. Their files and settings are left exactly as they are.
Before you play, please read the Rules. Everyone who plays on New Bradford agrees to them. To learn the story behind the world, read the Lore.
What you need
- A Windows PC. The launcher is a Windows program.
- An internet connection. The launcher download is about 110 MB, and the launcher then downloads the game files.
- You don't need to install Ultima Online or anything else first. The launcher downloads everything the game needs.
Step 1: Download the launcher
Download the launcher here:
Save the file and continue to Step 2. Your browser may show a warning first.
Step 2: Keep the download

The launcher is a new program that not many people have downloaded yet, so Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may warn you about it. In Microsoft Edge the warning says:
- NewBradfordLauncher.exe isn't commonly downloaded. Make sure you trust NewBradfordLauncher.exe before you open it.
This warning is about how popular the file is, not about anything found in it. To keep the file in Microsoft Edge:
- Open the Downloads panel and point at the warning. Click the … (three dots) next to the trash can icon.
- Click Keep.
- If a second warning appears, click Show more, then click Keep anyway.
Other browsers, such as Chrome or Firefox, word their warnings differently. Look for an option like Keep or Allow download.
Tip: Only keep the file if you downloaded it from the link on this page.
Step 3: Install the game
Open NewBradfordLauncher.exe from your Downloads folder. The launcher checks for updates as soon as it opens.

The first time you open it, the top of the window says:
- Review the install location, then click Install.
Choose where to install
The box under the message shows where the game will go. By default that's:
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\NewBradford
We strongly recommend keeping this default. It's your own folder, so the launcher can install and update the game without asking for administrator permission. If you'd rather install somewhere else, click Relocate (see The launcher buttons below).
Click Install
Click Install. The launcher downloads the game, which is several hundred files (436 at the time of writing).

While it installs:
- The top of the window shows which file is downloading, for example Downloading anim4.mul.
- The top progress bar shows how far through all the files you are.
- The bottom progress bar shows the progress of the current file.
- The log at the bottom lists what the launcher is doing.
When the install is done:
- The log says Install finished. Play is now available.
- The message under the status line turns green and says You are up to date.
- The Play button becomes clickable.
- The launcher adds a New Bradford shortcut to your Desktop and your Start menu. Use it to open the launcher from now on.
Click Play to start the game. The launcher closes when the game starts.
The launcher buttons
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Open Directory | Opens your install folder in File Explorer. |
| Relocate | Moves the game to another folder. Pick the folder that should contain the game, and the launcher creates a NewBradford folder inside it. (If the folder you pick is already named NewBradford, it's used as is.) If the game is already installed, the launcher asks you to confirm, then moves all the game files for you. The new location can't already contain a New Bradford install.
|
| Verify Installation | Checks every game file against the server. If any are missing or damaged, it tells you how many and asks Repair now? Click Yes to download fresh copies of just those files. Your own per-character settings are left alone. |
| Install | Downloads and installs the game. Only shown before the game is installed. |
| Update Available! | Shown in bold red when there's an update. Click it to download the update (see Updates). |
| Check for updates | Shown if the launcher couldn't reach the update server. Click it to try again. |
| Play | Starts the game and closes the launcher. Play doesn't check for updates, so make sure the launcher says you're up to date first. |
Updates
Every time you open the launcher, it checks for updates automatically.
- Up to date: the message under the status line is green and says You are up to date. Just click Play.
- Update available: the message turns red and says Update needed!, and an Update Available! button appears. Click it, and the launcher downloads only the files that changed.
- New launcher version: sometimes the update is for the launcher itself. When you click Update Available!, the launcher downloads its new version and restarts on its own. If game updates are also waiting, it shows Update Available! again after it restarts, so click it once more.
Updates never overwrite your own per-character settings.
Step 4: Log in

When the game starts, you'll see the Log in to New Bradford screen.
- Type your account name in Account Name.
- Type your password in Password.
- Click the green arrow in the bottom-right corner, or press Enter.
Account names and passwords can be up to 16 characters long.
New players: creating an account
You don't need to sign up anywhere first. New Bradford creates accounts automatically: the first time you log in with an account name that isn't taken, a new account is made with the password you typed. Pick a password you'll remember, because that's the one you'll use from then on.
Each IP address (internet connection) can have up to two accounts. If you need more, for example because several people in your home play, ask a staff member in our Discord for an exception.
Login screen options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Autologin | Logs you in automatically the next time you start the game. |
| Save Account | Remembers your account name and password on this computer, so they're filled in for you next time. |
| Music | Turns the login screen music on or off. When it's on, the slider next to it sets the volume (0 to 100). Changes take effect right away. |
The Autologin and Save Account boxes are saved when you log in.
Tip: Only use Save Account and Autologin on your own computer.
Links and buttons
| Link or button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Forgot Account | Opens the Forgot Account window. |
| Forgot Password | Opens the Forgot Password window so you can reset your password (see below). |
| Website | Opens newbradford.com. |
| Join Discord | Opens the New Bradford Discord. |
| Quit (top right) | Closes the game. |
| Green arrow (bottom right) | Logs in with the account name and password you typed. |
Resetting your password
You can only reset your password if your account has a verified email address.
- Click Forgot Password. If you already typed your account name on the login screen, it's filled in for you.
- Enter your account name (not your email address) and click Submit. If the account has a verified email, a code is sent to it.
- Enter the Code from the email, your new Password, and the same password again in Confirm, then click Submit.
- Click OK. You're taken back to the login screen with your account name filled in, so you can log in with your new password.
The code window has a countdown and closes on its own when time runs out. The timer turns orange when less than 5 minutes are left, and red in the last minute. If it closes before you finish, click Forgot Password again to start over.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The launcher says Could not check for updates. Play still works offline. | The launcher couldn't reach the update server. You can still click Play, or click Check for updates to try again later. |
| Install asks for administrator permission, or says it can't write to the folder | You probably picked a folder like Program Files. Install to the default location instead. Before the game is installed, the launcher shows a red click here to set default recommended location link that switches back for you. |
| The game won't start, crashes, or seems to be missing files | Click Verify Installation in the launcher, then click Yes when it asks Repair now? |
| Ultima Online data was not found (tiledata.mul) when you click Play | The game files aren't fully installed. Click Install (or Verify Installation) in the launcher. |
| This launcher … is too old | Download the latest launcher from the link in Step 1 and run it. |
If you need help, ask on our Discord. Staff may ask for your launcher log. It's the launcher.log file in your install folder, and you can find it with Open Directory.
