Movement Speeds explains how fast creatures move in New Bradford. New Bradford is a classic Ultima Online server, but it uses movement speeds closer to those that came after the Age of Shadows. This makes playing smoother, and it gives fights against monsters different levels of challenge.
Speed classes
Every creature belongs to a speed class. The table shows how long a creature in each class takes to move one step, in seconds. Lower is faster.
| Class | Wandering | Chasing | Following you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Very slow | 1.80s | 0.95s | 0.35s |
| Slow | 1.50s | 0.70s | 0.23s |
| Medium | 1.35s | 0.55s | 0.15s |
| Fast | 1.15s | 0.40s | 0.10s |
| Very fast | 0.90s | 0.27s | 0.10s |
- Wandering: the creature is idle and roaming around on its own.
- Chasing: the creature is hunting or attacking a target.
- Following you: a pet is following its owner.
Why it matters
Mining with a pack horse

When you're out mining, your Pack Horse now keeps up with you properly. On classic servers, getting a pet to follow you could be very frustrating. Your pack horse almost seemed to have a mind of its own. Here it stays close, so your ore is always within reach.
Fighting in dungeons

In dungeons, monsters that move a bit faster make fights more challenging, and more rewarding. You can't always just walk away from trouble, so plan your escape routes and keep an eye on what's coming.
Riding

Speed classes are about how creatures move on their own. When you ride, every mount moves at the same speed: 0.1 seconds per step when you run on a mount, compared with 0.2 seconds when you run on foot. See Mounts for every mount you can tame and ride.
