The Meer Mage is a Meer spellcaster that calls down insect swarms and summons angry woodland animals. It also has heavy fists (24–26). The Meer have good karma and fight only the evil: they attack creatures and players with negative karma and leave good-karma players alone.

Overview

  • In-game name: a meer mage
  • Corpse: a meer's corpse
  • Behavior: it attacks creatures and players with negative karma (evil) on sight, ignores everyone else, and fights like a spellcaster (mage AI), mixing spells with melee.
  • Notoriety: it shows as innocent (blue).
  • Rummages corpses: from time to time it takes a random item from a corpse within 2 tiles (*rummages through a corpse and takes an item*). Loot your kills quickly near one.

Abilities

Magic

It fights with the mage AI: it closes to melee range but casts between swings. Its Magery is 70.1–80.0 and its Evaluating Intelligence 100.0.

  • Damage spells: Magic Arrow, Harm, Fireball, Lightning, Mind Blast, Energy Bolt and Explosion. A stronger one (with more Magery) can also cast Flame Strike.
  • Other spells: about 1 cast in 8 is Poison (only if you aren't poisoned already). It may also Bless itself, curse you (Weaken, Clumsy, Feeblemind or Curse), drain your mana (Mana Drain or Mana Vampire) or Paralyze you.
  • Healing: it cures itself when poisoned, and sometimes heals itself (Greater Heal when badly hurt), more often the higher its Magery.

Poison immunity

It is immune to all poison, so poisoned weapons, the Poison spell and poison potions do nothing to it.

Dispels summons

Any summoned creature that can be dispelled is destroyed instantly when it hits the meer mage in melee or the meer mage hits it. Blade spirits, energy vortexes, summoned elementals and daemons are wasted against it.

Nature's wrath

Every 20–30 seconds it picks on its current target within 12 tiles (if you're fighting it with a pet, it targets the pet's owner instead):

  • 10% of the time: summons animals. Five enraged creatures (a rabbit, a hind, a hart, a black bear and an eagle) appear around the target and attack. See Enraged Creatures.
  • Otherwise, on players: insect swarm. A swarm of insects plagues the player, dealing 20–30 damage every 7 seconds until they die or hold a lit torch, which drives the swarm away. While it lasts, the player is reminded of the swarm every few ticks.

Loot

Every meer mage carries:

  • Gold: about 402–650 in total (from its "Filthy Rich" loot)
  • 2 magic scrolls from circles 4–7. With Necromancy enabled on New Bradford, necromancy scrolls can show up too.

It may also carry:

  • A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 4 chances, from about 33% down to 5% each)
  • A musical instrument (about 2% or less)
  • A level 3 treasure map (1% chance)

Carving

There's nothing to carve from its corpse.

Tips

  • Carry a torch: light it and hold it to get rid of the insect swarm.
  • It can dispel your summoned creatures, and it's immune to all poison.
  • It shows blue (innocent) and has +8,000 karma.
  • Filthy Rich loot, 2 magic scrolls of circles 4–7, and a 1% chance at a level 3 treasure map.
  • It rummages through corpses, so loot your kills before it reaches them.
