The Poison Elemental is a cloud of living venom. Three of every four of its hits carry Lethal poison, the strongest there is, and it casts spells too.

Overview

  • In-game name: a poison elemental
  • Corpse: a poison elementals corpse
  • Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights like a spellcaster (mage AI), mixing spells with melee.
  • Movement: it is one of the faster creatures in the game (fast speed).
  • Bleed immune: bleed attacks (a weapon special New Bradford enables) don't affect it.

Abilities

Magic

It fights with the mage AI: it closes to melee range but casts between swings. Its Magery is 80.1–95.0 and its Evaluating Intelligence 80.1–95.0.

  • Damage spells: Magic Arrow, Harm, Fireball, Lightning, Mind Blast, Energy Bolt, Explosion and Flame Strike.
  • Other spells: about 1 cast in 8 is Poison (only if you aren't poisoned already). It may also Bless itself, curse you (Weaken, Clumsy, Feeblemind or Curse), drain your mana (Mana Drain or Mana Vampire) or Paralyze you.
  • Healing: it cures itself when poisoned, and sometimes heals itself (Greater Heal when badly hurt), more often the higher its Magery.
  • Dispel: with 361+ Intelligence it can cast Dispel on your summoned creatures (more reliably the higher its Magery).

Poison attack

Each time its melee attack hits, there's a 75% chance it also poisons the target with Lethal poison.

  • Lethal poison deals 25% of your current hit points (at least 9, at most 26) every 5 seconds, for up to 10 ticks.
  • Cure it with a cure potion, the Cure or Arch Cure spell, or a healer's bandages and the Healing skill. Higher levels are harder to cure.

Poison immunity: it is immune to all poison, so poisoned weapons, the Poison spell and poison potions do nothing to it.

Loot

Every poison elemental carries:

  • Gold: about 662–1,000 in total (from its "Filthy Rich" and "Rich" loot)
  • 1 magic scroll from circles 4–7. With Necromancy enabled on New Bradford, necromancy scrolls can show up too.
  • 4 nightshade
  • 1 lesser poison potion

It may also carry:

  • A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 7 chances, from about 33% down to 1% each)
  • A musical instrument (about 3% or less)
  • A level 5 treasure map (1% chance)

Carving

There's nothing to carve from its corpse.

Location

  • Champion spawn: it is a level 4 creature of the Arachnid champion spawn (champion: Mephitis), so it appears at the fixed Arachnid altar at Felucca 5190, 1607, and any of the 11 Lost Lands altars that rolls Arachnid. Each one killed during a spawn gives the killer Valor and champion-title progress.
  • The Deceit brazier (a scripted item named for the dungeon Deceit): double-clicking it from within 2 tiles summons one creature picked at random from a list of about 90, and this is one of them. The brazier warns players who step next to it ("Heed this warning well, and use this brazier at your own peril"). It works once every 15 minutes and places the creature within 5 tiles. The summoned creature is set to attack the closest target, even if it would normally leave you alone, and it stays within 5 tiles of the brazier.

Champion spawns only exist if the staff have generated them (with the staff command [GenChamps); the code doesn't say whether that's been done on New Bradford.

Tips

  • Carry plenty of Greater Cure potions; Lethal poison can deal 25% of your current health per tick.
  • It's immune to every kind of poison.
  • It's one of the few elementals that can drop level 5 treasure maps.
