The Daemon is the classic winged red daemon of Britannia: a strong spellcaster and melee fighter that marks the step up from mid-level hunting. Not to be confused with the daemon a mage summons with the Summon Daemon spell.
Overview
- In-game name: a random daemon name
- Corpse: a daemon corpse
- Factions: its script lists it as an ally of the Shadowlords faction and the Evil ethic (this only matters where factions and ethics are active).
- Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights like a spellcaster (mage AI), mixing spells with melee.
- Rummages corpses: from time to time it takes a random item from a corpse within 2 tiles (*rummages through a corpse and takes an item*). Loot your kills quickly near one.

Abilities
Magic
It fights with the mage AI: it closes to melee range but casts between swings. Its Magery is 70.1–80.0 and its Evaluating Intelligence 70.1–80.0.
- Damage spells: Magic Arrow, Harm, Fireball, Lightning, Mind Blast, Energy Bolt and Explosion. A stronger one (with more Magery) can also cast Flame Strike.
- Other spells: about 1 cast in 8 is Poison (only if you aren't poisoned already). It may also Bless itself, curse you (Weaken, Clumsy, Feeblemind or Curse), drain your mana (Mana Drain or Mana Vampire) or Paralyze you.
- Healing: it cures itself when poisoned, and sometimes heals itself (Greater Heal when badly hurt), more often the higher its Magery.
- Dispel: with 301+ Intelligence it can cast Dispel on your summoned creatures (more reliably the higher its Magery).
Poison immunity
It is immune to poison up to Regular (Lesser, Regular). Only stronger poison affects it.
Loot
Every daemon carries:
- Gold: about 380–650 in total (from its "Rich" and "Average" ×2 loot)
- 2 magic scrolls from circles 4–7. With Necromancy enabled on New Bradford, necromancy scrolls can show up too.
It may also carry:
- A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 9 chances, from about 20% down to 0.5% each)
- A musical instrument (about 1.8% or less)
- A level 4 treasure map (1% chance)
Carving
Use a blade on the corpse to get:
- 1 raw ribs
Location
- Champion spawn: it is a level 4 creature of the Abyss champion spawn (champion: Semidar), so it appears at the fixed Abyss altar at 5815, 1352, and any of the 11 Lost Lands altars that rolls Abyss. Each one killed during a spawn gives the killer Valor and champion-title progress.
- The Deceit brazier (a scripted item named for the dungeon Deceit): double-clicking it from within 2 tiles summons one creature picked at random from a list of about 90, and this is one of them. The brazier warns players who step next to it ("Heed this warning well, and use this brazier at your own peril"). It works once every 15 minutes and places the creature within 5 tiles. The summoned creature is set to attack the closest target, even if it would normally leave you alone, and it stays within 5 tiles of the brazier.
Champion spawns only exist if the staff have generated them (with the staff command [GenChamps); the code doesn't say whether that's been done on New Bradford.
Tips
- Its Magery of 70–80 gives it Energy Bolt and Explosion; keep your health above 50.
- It's immune to Regular poison and weaker; use Greater or stronger.
- It rummages corpses, so loot quickly.
