The Giant Ice Worm is a fast, poisonous worm that attacks on sight. You must beat it nearly to death before you can tame it, and taming it permanently halves its stats.
Overview
- In-game name: a giant ice worm
- Corpse: a giant ice worm corpse
- Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights in melee.

Abilities
Poison
Every time its melee attack hits, there's a 50% chance it also poisons the target with Greater poison. A tamed giant ice worm keeps this attack.
It is immune to poison up to Greater (Lesser, Regular, Greater).
Taming
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum Animal Taming | 71.1 (below this you have no chance) |
| Control slots | 1 |
| Maximum owners | 5 (each previous owner makes it harder to tame) |
| Bonding | Yes |
| Rideable | No |
| Favorite food | Meat |
- Subdue it first. You can't tame a wild one until it's down to 10% of its hit points or less ("You must subdue this creature before you can tame it!"). When it gets that low you'll see "* The creature has been beaten into subjugation! *" If it heals above 10% during your attempt, the attempt fails. A worm that has had an owner before doesn't need subduing.
- Success chance. For a first-time tame, your chance of success at the end of an attempt is about 58% at 100.0 skill, and it improves as your skill rises. Every previous owner adds 6 points to the difficulty.
- Don't hurt it during the attempt. Once you've started taming, any damage makes it fail with "The animal is too angry to continue taming." Do the subduing first, then tame.
- Stay close. You must stay within 6 tiles of it and keep a clear path to it.
- Obedience. Once tamed, how often it obeys depends on your Animal Taming and Animal Lore (taming counts four times as much as lore). With both at 71.1 it obeys about 70% of the time, and at about 76.0 it reaches the 99% maximum. Below 71.1 the chance drops quickly, to as low as 22%.
- Re-taming. If you've owned this one before, taming it again always succeeds ("That wasn't even challenging.").
- After its first tame, its skills drop to 90% of their wild values (86% if it was paralyzed while you tamed it), and its Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and hit points are cut in half.
Bonding
Only the owner can bond with a giant ice worm, and they need at least 71.1 Animal Taming (base skill). Feed it to start bonding, then feed it again after 7 days to finish. When you see "Your pet has bonded with you!", it's done.
Loot
It carries no loot.
Carving
There's nothing to carve from its corpse.
Tips
- Beat it down to 10% health or less before you start taming, then stop attacking.
- It attacks on sight and its hits can give you Greater poison.
- At 100.0 skill each attempt has about a 58% chance.
- Remember that taming halves its stats, so a tamed worm is much weaker than a wild one.
- It drops nothing and can't be carved.
