The Golem is a clockwork construct that attacks on sight and stuns with colossal blows. Wild golems carry the parts to build another one, and a skilled tinker can build their own golem to fight alongside them.

Overview

  • In-game name: a golem
  • Corpse: a golem corpse
  • Wild and built: the wild golem and the golem a tinker builds from a clockwork assembly are the same creature. A built golem has a bronze-gray hue (2101), weaker stats, and no loot.
  • Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights in melee.
  • Movement: it is one of the slower creatures in the game (slow speed), so you can outrun it.
  • Bard skills: it can't be provoked, calmed with Peacemaking or discorded.
  • Scary to pets: if you order most pets to attack it, they refuse: "Your pet refuses to attack this creature!"
  • Bleed immune: bleed attacks (a weapon special New Bradford enables) don't affect it.
  • Wild vs. built: a wild golem dispels summons, can't be discorded and is immune to poison and bleeding. A built golem doesn't dispel, is still immune to poison and bleeding, and can't be discorded either.

Skills

Skill Range
Magic Resistance 150.1–190.0
Tactics 60.1–100.0
Wrestling 60.1–100.0

These are a wild golem's stats. A built golem has the same stats multiplied by the builder's Tinkering factor (see below). Wild golems have Fame 3,500 and Karma −3,500; built golems have 10 and 10.

Abilities

Poison immunity

It is immune to all poison, so poisoned weapons, the Poison spell and poison potions do nothing to it.

Dispels summons

Any summoned creature that can be dispelled is destroyed instantly when it hits the golem in melee or the golem hits it. Blade spirits, energy vortexes, summoned elementals and daemons are wasted against it.

Colossal blow

Each melee hit has a 30% chance to be a colossal blow: an extra weapon hit, and the target is frozen for 5 seconds ("You have been stunned by a colossal blow!").

Building a golem

Double-click a clockwork assembly in your backpack:

  • Skill: you need at least 60 Tinkering ("You must be a Journeyman or higher Tinker to construct a golem.").
  • Parts used up: the assembly itself, plus 1 power crystal, 5 gears, 50 bronze ingots and 50 iron ingots.
  • Followers: you need room for 4 more followers to build it, but the finished golem uses 3 control slots.
  • Strength of the golem: its stats, skills and damage are scaled by your Tinkering: 100+ = full (×1.0), 90+ = ×0.9, 80+ = ×0.8, 70+ = ×0.7, below 70 = ×0.6.
  • Bound to its builder: it's a controlled pet that can't be bonded and eats nothing, and it's deleted if you release it.
  • Damage costs you mana: while you're within 20 tiles, every hit point of damage your golem takes also drains that much of your mana. When your mana runs out, the rest comes off your hit points.
  • A built golem can't be distracted, and pets still refuse to attack it.

Loot

Every golem carries:

  • 13–21 iron ingots

It may also carry:

  • a power crystal (10%)
  • a clockwork assembly (15%)
  • an arcane gem (20%)
  • gears (25%)
  • a music box gear for Dawn's music box (5% chance; 3 in 4 of those are a common tune, the rest uncommon)

A wild golem has no loot packs, so it never drops gold. A built golem carries nothing.

Carving

There's nothing to carve from its corpse.

Location

  • The Deceit brazier: double-clicking it from within 2 tiles summons one creature picked at random from a list of about 90, and this is one of them. The brazier warns players who step next to it ("Heed this warning well, and use this brazier at your own peril"). It works once every 15 minutes and places the creature within 5 tiles. The summoned creature is set to attack the closest target, even if it would normally leave you alone, and it stays within 5 tiles of the brazier.

Tips

  • Wild golems are the main source of clockwork assemblies; collect the other parts from Exodus constructs and betrayers.
  • Keep your mana up when fighting with your own golem: its damage drains you first.
  • A built golem is only as strong as your Tinkering; build it at 100 for full stats.
  • Pets refuse to attack wild golems, and a wild golem destroys summons on contact.
