The Pack Llama is a peaceful llama that carries your items, just like a pack horse. It's easy to tame and always obeys. You can't ride it.

Overview

  • In-game name: a pack llama
  • Corpse: a llama corpse
  • Behavior: it leaves you alone unless you attack it, then fights in melee (animal AI).

Taming

Requirement Value
Minimum Animal Taming 11.1 (below this you have no chance)
Control slots 1
Maximum owners 5 (each previous owner makes it harder to tame)
Bonding Yes
Rideable No
Favorite food Fruits and vegetables or grain and hay
  • Success chance. For a first-time tame, your chance of success at the end of an attempt rises by about 2% per skill point and reaches 100% at 61.0 skill. Every previous owner adds 6 points to the difficulty.
  • Don't hurt it. If it takes any damage during your attempt, taming fails with "The animal is too angry to continue taming."
  • Stay close. You must stay within 6 tiles of it and keep a clear path to it.
  • Obedience. Once tamed, its taming requirement is 29.1 or lower, so it always obeys its owner.
  • Re-taming. If you've owned this one before, taming it again always succeeds ("That wasn't even challenging.").
  • After its first tame, its skills drop to 90% of their wild values, or 86% if it was paralyzed while you tamed it. Its stats don't drop.

Bonding

Only the owner can bond with a pack llama. Its taming requirement is 29.1 or lower, so there's no Animal Taming requirement to bond. Feed it to start bonding, then feed it again after 7 days to finish. When you see "Your pet has bonded with you!", it's done.

Carrying items

A tamed pack llama carries a strong backpack that holds up to 1,600 stones of weight.

  • Drop items onto it to put them in its pack, or double-click it (or use its context menu) to open the pack.
  • Only its owner, people on its friends list and staff can open the pack, put items in it or take them out. Anyone else trying to look inside counts as snooping.
  • When an unbonded pack llama dies, everything in its pack goes to its corpse, gathered into one backpack.
  • You can't open the pack of a dead (bonded) pet.

Loot

It carries no loot.

Carving

Use a blade on the corpse to get:

  • 1 raw ribs

Tips

  • Taming starts at 11.1 and always succeeds from 61.0.
  • Its pack holds up to 1,600 stones, the same as a pack horse.
  • It has fewer hit points (50) than a pack horse (61–80), so keep it out of fights.
  • Its corpse gives only 1 raw ribs and no hides.
