The Valorite Elemental is the toughest ore elemental: it reflects every spell, ignores pets, takes half damage from weapons, destroys equipment and vents poison gas. One of eight ore elementals; each has its own page because their stats and special defenses differ a lot. See also dull copper, shadow iron, copper, bronze, golden, agapite, verite and valorite.

Overview

  • In-game name: a valorite elemental
  • Corpse: an ore elemental corpse
  • Behavior: it attacks the nearest target it sees and fights in melee.
  • Bleed immune: bleed attacks (a weapon special New Bradford enables) don't affect it.

Abilities

Dispels summons

Any summoned creature that can be dispelled is destroyed instantly when it hits the valorite elemental in melee or the valorite elemental hits it. Blade spirits, energy vortexes, summoned elementals and daemons are wasted against it.

Poison gas counter

When something standing right next to it damages it (melee or spell), there's a 5% chance it blasts the attacker with gas: 50 damage plus Deadly poison. Provoked creatures don't trigger it.

Destroys equipment

Each time it hits a player next to it in melee, there's a 5% chance it destroys one random equipped item that has durability and isn't blessed, newbied or insured: "Your <item> is destroyed by the attack."

Special behaviors

  • Reflects every spell. Every spell cast at it bounces back to the caster, as if it always had Magic Reflection up.
  • Immune to pets and provoked creatures: melee damage from tamed pets, and from creatures provoked onto it, is reduced to 0.
  • Half melee damage: melee from everyone else does only 50% damage.

Loot

Every valorite elemental carries:

  • Gold: about 402–650 in total (from its "Filthy Rich" loot)
  • 4 random gems (amber, amethyst, citrine, diamond, emerald, ruby, sapphire, star sapphire or tourmaline)
  • 2 valorite ore (a pile; 25 if it rose from a gargoyle's pickaxe dig)

It may also carry:

  • A magic weapon, armor piece or shield (up to 4 chances, from about 33% down to 5% each)
  • A musical instrument (about 2% or less)
  • A level 1 treasure map (1% chance)

Carving

There's nothing to carve from its corpse.

Location

  • Mining with a gargoyle's pickaxe: when you mine with a gargoyle's pickaxe and the ore you dig up is the vein's main ore, there's a 10% chance a valorite elemental rises next to you and attacks you. That elemental carries 25 valorite ore instead of the usual 2. You need about 99 Mining to dig valorite ore. Gargoyle's pickaxes drop from gargoyles, enslaved gargoyles, stone gargoyles, gargoyle enforcers and gargoyle destroyers.

Tips

  • Only your own weapons work well: spells bounce back and pets do nothing.
  • Wear blessed or insured gear; it can destroy equipment.
  • Archery keeps you out of range of its gas and equipment attacks, though arrows still only do half damage.
  • Its "Filthy Rich" pack and 4 gems make it the best-paying ore elemental.
