Forensic Evaluation is the detective's skill. Examine a corpse to learn who killed it and who looted it, examine a lock to learn who picked it, or study a person to see whether they belong to the thieves' guild.

How to use it
Use the skill: Select what you want to examine. Using it reveals you if you're hidden. Then target one of these within 10 tiles:
| Target | What you learn |
|---|---|
| A corpse | Who killed it (for human bodies): This person was killed by name. and who has looted it: This body has been disturbed by names If nobody has, This corpse has not been desecrated. Once someone has examined a corpse, later examiners are told who found out first. Check from 0 to 100. |
| A person | Whether they belong to the thieves' guild: This individual is a thief! or You notice nothing unusual. Check from 40 to 100, so below 40 you'll always fail. |
| Who last picked it: This lock was opened by name. This always works. |
If a check fails: You cannot determine anything useful.
Training Forensic Evaluation
- Examining corpses trains from 0 to 100, so keep using it on bodies after a hunt.
- Examining people only trains from 40 up.
- Below 10.0 you gain on every attempt, sometimes several tenths at once. Above that, each attempt has a chance to gain 0.1.
- The harder the attempt is for your skill level, the better your chance to gain. Your chance also drops as you get closer to your Forensic Evaluation cap and to your total skill cap of 700.
- If you've set Forensic Evaluation to go down (the arrow in your skills list), gains elsewhere can lower it to make room under your total cap. Lock skills you want to keep.
- Reaching 100.0 adds Forensic Evaluation to the Skills Mastered count on your achievements.
- Healers, wandering healers, fortune tellers and healer guildmasters will train you for gold: up to a third of their own skill, at most 42.0, for 1 gold per 0.1 points. Ask them (or use their context menu) to train the skill, then drop the gold on them.
Stats: each successful use has a smaller chance (under 1%) to raise Dexterity and about a 2% chance to raise Intelligence by 1 point. Each stat can rise at most once every 10 minutes, and only if it's set to rise.
Suggested path
| Forensic Evaluation | How to train |
|---|---|
| 0 to about 33 | Buy it from a healer. |
| 33 to 100 | Examine the corpses left after any fight. Above 40, examining people also helps. |
Tips
- Find out who looted your friend's body before the evidence decays.
- Spot thieves in a crowd before they reach your backpack.
