Skills/Spirit Speak
Spirit Speak lets you hear the dead. Ghosts normally only moan, but while you're in contact with the netherworld you understand them clearly. It is also the power behind every Necromancy spell.

How to use it
Use Spirit Speak from your skills list. Using it reveals you if you're hidden. Your chance of success is your skill out of 100.
- On success: You establish contact with the netherworld. You can understand ghosts for a while.
- On failure: You fail your attempt at contacting the netherworld.
- When it wears off: You feel your contacts with the netherworld fade.

Spirit Speak and Necromancy
For a necromancer, Spirit Speak is the damage and duration skill: Pain Spike, Poison Strike, Strangle, Wither, Blood Oath, Mind Rot, Vengeful Spirit and the rest all grow stronger with it. Summon Familiar also needs it to call the stronger familiars. See Necromancy.
Training Spirit Speak
- Every use is a chance to gain, from 0 to 100. Use it over and over; there's a short delay between uses.
- Below 10.0 you gain on every attempt, sometimes several tenths at once. Above that, each attempt has a chance to gain 0.1.
- The harder the attempt is for your skill level, the better your chance to gain. Your chance also drops as you get closer to your Spirit Speak cap and to your total skill cap of 700.
- If you've set Spirit Speak to go down (the arrow in your skills list), gains elsewhere can lower it to make room under your total cap. Lock skills you want to keep.
- Reaching 100.0 adds Spirit Speak to the Skills Mastered count on your achievements.
- Healers, wandering healers, fortune tellers, healer guildmasters and mages will train you for gold: up to a third of their own skill, at most 42.0, for 1 gold per 0.1 points. Ask them (or use their context menu) to train the skill, then drop the gold on them.
Stats: each successful use has about a 3% chance to raise Intelligence by 1 point. Each stat can rise at most once every 10 minutes, and only if it's set to rise.
Suggested path
| Spirit Speak | How to train |
|---|---|
| 0 to about 33 | Buy it from a healer or mage. |
| 33 to 100 | Use the skill repeatedly. It's slow but costs nothing. |
Tips
- Talk to dead friends after a fight so they can tell you where they fell or what they need.
