Skills/Veterinary
Veterinary is healing for animals and monsters. Use bandages on a pet (or any creature) to heal its wounds, cure its poison and even bring a dead pet back to life.
At a glance
| Skill cap | 100 (Grandmaster), raised up to 120 with Veterinary power scrolls |
|---|---|
| Materials | |
| Partner skill | Animal Lore |
| Main uses | Healing, curing and resurrecting pets |
| Stats it trains | Strength, Intelligence and Dexterity |
How to use it
Double-click a bandage and target a creature. Bandages use Veterinary on animals and monsters and Healing on people. Stay close until you finish. It takes:
| Your Dexterity | Time to finish |
|---|---|
| 100 or more | 3 seconds |
| 40 to 99 | 4 seconds |
| Below 40 | 5 seconds |
| Resurrecting a pet | 5 more seconds |
If you're hit while bandaging your fingers may slip, lowering the result.
Healing
- Chance: (Veterinary + 10)%, minus 2% for every slip.
- Amount: from (Animal Lore / 5 + Veterinary / 5 + 3) to (Animal Lore / 5 + Veterinary / 2 + 10), plus 1 for every 100 hit points the creature has. Each slip takes off 4.
Curing poison
Needs 60 Veterinary and 60 Animal Lore. Chance: (Veterinary − 30) / 50, minus 10% for each level of the poison. You have cured the target of all poisons!
Resurrecting a pet
Needs 80 Veterinary and 80 Animal Lore. Bandage the pet's ghost. Its owner (or a friend of the pet) must be within 3 tiles and accept the offer. Chance: (Veterinary − 68) / 50. The pet comes back with 0.1 less in every skill. On failure: You fail to resurrect the creature.
| Veterinary | Animal Lore | Heal chance | Heal amount (100 hp pet) | Cure chance (lesser poison) | Resurrect chance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 50 | 60% | 23–45 | — | — |
| 80 | 80 | 90% | 35–66 | 100% | 24% |
| 100 | 100 | 100% | 43–80 | 100% | 64% |
| 120 | 120 | 100% | 51–94 | 100% | 100% |
Training Veterinary
- Every bandage you finish is a chance to gain both Veterinary and Animal Lore, up to 120.
- Pets need to be hurt to heal. Let your pet fight something weak and keep bandaging it.
- Below 10.0 you gain on every attempt, sometimes several tenths at once. Above that, each attempt has a chance to gain 0.1.
- The harder the attempt is for your skill level, the better your chance to gain. Your chance also drops as you get closer to your Veterinary cap and to your total skill cap of 700.
- If you've set Veterinary to go down (the arrow in your skills list), gains elsewhere can lower it to make room under your total cap. Lock skills you want to keep.
- Reaching 100.0 adds Veterinary to the Skills Mastered count on your achievements.
- Veterinarians, animal trainers, ranchers, rangers and thieves will train you for gold: up to a third of their own skill, at most 42.0, for 1 gold per 0.1 points. Ask them (or use their context menu) to train the skill, then drop the gold on them.
Stats: each successful use has about a 2% chance to raise Strength, about a 1% chance to raise Dexterity and about a 2% chance to raise Intelligence by 1 point. Each stat can rise at most once every 10 minutes, and only if it's set to rise.
Suggested path
| Veterinary | How to train |
|---|---|
| 0 to about 33 | Buy it from a veterinarian. |
| 33 to 100 | Bandage your pet while it fights. Curing and resurrecting count too once you can. |
| 100 to 120 | Requires a power scroll. Keep healing pets in tough fights. |
Power scrolls

Veterinary tops out at 100.0 unless you use a Veterinary power scroll. There are three kinds: exalted (110), mythical (115) and legendary (120). Double-click one to raise your Veterinary cap to that number: "You feel a surge of magic as the scroll enhances your Veterinary!"
- Veterinary power scrolls come from champion bosses: Barracoon, Lord Oaks, Mephitis, Neira, Rikktor, Semidar and Silvani. Each champion boss leaves 6 power scrolls in random fighting, magic, bard and animal skills, handed out among the players who helped kill it. Each scroll is a 110 (60%), 115 (35%) or 120 (5%).
- A scroll only works if it's higher than your current cap. Otherwise: "Your Veterinary is too high for this power scroll."
- Champion power scrolls are cursed: they always drop when you die, even from a blessed container. Use them or bank them quickly.
- Raising the cap doesn't raise your skill. You still have to train the extra points.
Tips
- Keep Animal Lore up. It adds to every heal and gates cures and resurrections.
- Carry plenty of bandages into fights with your pets.
